Pandora's Children, the sequel to Pandora's Genes, takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where control of earth is contested between the fanatic, anti-science Traders, and those who follow the Principal, leader of the last citadel of science and learning. Now Evvy, the brilliant young scientist, has been kidnapped on the morning of her marriage to The Principal. To save her, Zach, the poet-warrior who also loves her, must journey through a danger-strewn land hoping to outwit the secret traitor bent on destroying their world. Pandora’s Children begins where Pandora’s Genes ended. In 1986, Locus raved that Pandora’s Genes “has a plot Shakespeare would have loved, in a setting after Edgar Pangborn... As a first novel, this stands above the crowd." Named Locus Recommended List and Best New Science Fiction Writer, Romance Times, 1986.

This is a great continuation of Pandora's Genes. I recommend reading that first before reading this one. There are new foes and dangers for Zach, Evvy, and Will the Principal in this book, and I was hardly able to put the book down because I just HAD to know who was doing what to whom. There were twists and turns and surprises that kept me guessing the whole way through. As soon as I finished I started the third and final book, Pandora's Promise, because I just wasn't willing to leave this world.
I continue to wish I had a fox-cat like Evvy's Baby. The depth of her understanding of what the humans need (sometimes even before they need it) and what they explain that they will need makes my cats look as smart as bricks. My Clinchfield doesn't even grasp the "Get off the table!" concept. Baby would not only stay off the table, but would make sure everyone else would stay off, too.

Pandora Children The Pandora Trilogy Book 2 eBook Kathryn Lance Reviews
Fun read and kept my interest. The story was exciting and in some parts amusing. It was a good combination of fun and fantasy wrapped up in a good story.
Reading this book can be likened to pulling out nails. The story line is very intriguing, but it is very slow paced. While reading this, I would get so bored I would have to spur l stop for awhile, and return again only when the question of "what happens next" got to much. A great read it you can enjoy slow paced books.
I just love these Pandora books and recommend them to everyone! Couldn't put the first one down and it was the same for this one. The story is so interesting and I love the characters-even the animals! I love the foxcats!!
This is good series. Book 2 surprised me completely at the end. I'm surprised that I could get so involved so much.
It's very hard to follow a great first book, but Pandora's Children has actually succeeded in passing my expectations because the second book turned out to be even better than the first one! You get to know old characters better and get introduced to some fascinating new ones. So, if you loved the first book (of course you did or you wouldn't be checking out book #2), I recommend that you buy and read this one ASAP! Happy Reading! ❤️
This is the 3rd book in KL's Pandora trilogy, and it is VERY well written, and so vivid! The scenario here is so plausible - it is a realistic view of what could happen in the future, and life would be extremely dangerous then. The characters are so real, it's like you are right there with them, and you come to care deeply about each one of them, and i cried my eyes out over ... oops i don't want to spoil anything, so i will just say that i have never been so scared in my whole life, and you have absolutely got to read KL's whole Pandora series!
This book and its companion, Pandora's Genes, are a fabulous read. I fell right into this portrayal of a society trying to recover from a genetic disaster that has left humanity teetering on the brink of extinction due to an acquired disorder that causes most women to die shortly after giving birth to a female child. The various ways that Lance has her characters respond to their radically changed world are entirely believable. One group seeks to bring things under control using scientific methods, while another group rejects all science and technology, believing that whatever happens is the will of God. I was particularly impressed with how sympathetically the leader of the second group was portrayed. It would have been easy to just make him a wild-eyed nut-case, but Lance shows him as a man of sincere beliefs and great love for humanity. The Christ parallels might have been a tad overdrawn, but that's a small complaint. I would love to have more books in this series. This world is too interesting not to want more.
As for the rating, I would have given the book 5 stars in a heartbeat, but for one plot twist that I couldn't quite buy. I guess this qualifies as a spoiler, so stop here if you don't want to know. One of the main characters, the charismatic leader called "The Principal," is set up in the first book, Pandora's Genes, as a violent pedophile. Then, in this book, he makes a complete turnaround and falls in love with an adult woman with whom he is gentle and loving. In the real world, pedophiles, especially violent ones, are not "saved by the love of a good woman." On the other hand, I'd like to believe they could be, so I managed to set aside my doubts and go with it. Please don't let this small criticism stop you from reading these books. Maybe if Lance writes another in the series (hint, hint) she can explore and explain this transformation a bit more.
